Dr. Jim Kerley has 27 years of community college experience, with 20 of those years as a community college president. In June 2007, Dr. Kerley assumed the presidency of Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Florida. Prior to this, he served as the president of Bluegrass Community and Technical College in Lexington, Kentucky and he also served as president of Hopkinsville Community College in Kentucky. Dr. Kerley has also served as a faculty member and instructional administrator in Kentucky, Georgia, and Florida. He began his service on the SACJTC board in January, 2010.
Dr. Kerley holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Educational Administration and Supervision of Higher Education from Florida State University; a Master of Arts in Teaching in History from The Citadel; and a Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences/History/Secondary Education from Tennessee Tech University.
